Here We Go: 2014 Dopey Challenge Training

Today was the start of my training for the 2014 Dopey Challenge. I have been searching for a training plan to use but everyone that I came across didn't exactly fit with my goals of losing body fat and toning up during the plan. So, I decided to put one together myself. The plan below is a fusion of my last Goofy Race and Half Challenge plan, a 50k plain, and Crossing Training Classes ( Kickboxing, Fast Track, and Boxing) that my local gym provides. I'm hoping this plan will not only have me ready to tackle the 48.6 magic miles but have me looking good while doing it.

If my plan does not suit what your looking for  Rundisney has also released a Dopey Challenge Training Plan and you can find it ----Here

Remember to consult your doctor before taking on any training program and Happy Training and have a Dopey Good Time.

Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon 2013 Medal Contest

I signed up for the Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon on October 20, 2013. This will be my third Half Marathon and my first race event in South Carolina. The Company behind the race decided to do something I personally haven't scene before, they have opened up a contest to design the 2013 Mini Marathon Medal.  Here the contest details form they're website....

2013 Medal Design Contest DESIGN OUR 2013 MEDAL! 2012 Medal

We are bringing back the medal design challenge for our 2013 Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon medal! If you missed out on our contest in the past, now is your chance to let your creative side shine! If you own one of our previous finisher medals you know how AMAZING they are! If you don't have one, TRUST US, you will want one!

Here is the challenge
........ You can use whatever artistic method you choose and post it as a picture on our Facebook pageWe will collect all designs through June 14th so get your creative juices flowing and remember these simple guidelines:
1. It must still be a surfboard and it must remain 8 inches long
2. It must incorporate a bottle opener
3. It must have the race name (Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon) and date (October 20, 2013)
4. This year, we are opening up the design to include any color scheme you choose

We will post the top 3 designs on Facebook for voting. If we choose your medal design, you get the honor of having created one of the coolest running medals ever and a free entry into this year's race! Good luck!

The Top Three Designs are as follows...........

Memorial Day 5K / 10K Recap

Yesterday I ran the East Cobb Memorial Day 5k/10k  in Atlanta, Georgia. The race started at East Cobb LA Fitness at 7:30am with check in and packet pick up opening at 6:30am.

All right, this is my first race after the big one in Disney World. Since I normally work on the weekends I haven't been able to sign up for any races but when I found out about the Memorial Day 5k/10K that was held on a Monday (a day that I have off) I was defiantly up for my first 10k.

The race morning I was up early to have a little breakfast of apple cinnamon oatmeal and since I laid out everything I need for the race the night before I was in the car off to the race in no time.

This race I decided to try out a new running accessory the HALO Headband. The Halo is a dry-line a fabric headband with a patented sweat block seal that channels sweat back and away form your eyes. The sweat block seal was the main reason I wanted to give it a try, because there is nothing worst then have to remove your sunglasses to wipe away sweat form your eyes in the middle of a race.

The packet pick up was very simple and organized with race registration on one side and all pre-register dived by last name on the other.
Packet Pick up

The 5k and 10k Both started at the time which resulted in the time of the race be very congested. After the the first mile or so the field started to thin out with everyone settling into to there pace. I really didn't have a strategy for this race, my plan was to kind a good pace where I didn't have to walk.

After the 5k turnaround felt good so I decide to pick it up for the final 5k  focusing just on passing the person right in front me, until about a little over quarter of a mile left some guy decide to pass me......O No That's Not Going to Fly. So we ended up have a sprint to the finish....
